I don't know much about this method, but I think gpm is a really
importand thing which I really want to be installed by default.
I often use the console (also when I write this message I do so) and
I use it because it is so comfortable when gpm is installed.
Moreover my favourite shell is mc which needs gpm.

Please let gpm in the priority it is but of course any autodetection
stuff would be greatly appreciated.
