Dirk, I was not precise on my mail. I was just refering to the actual time.
I did answer Ben's mail in a moment where I didn't have the time and I never
should have done that. Still I do not like answers like "you didn't read the
docs". 

Anyway, as I already pointed out I was thinking the usage of a
/etc/environment like machanism was policy. After all they used to say pam
can do evberything shadow can and more. So I wonder why this mechanism is
disabled by default.
