If my mother uses your programm (actually, she doesn't, but she could), she will 
have problems with it. Now, she ask me why it doesn't work. I'm an middleman. If 
I think it's a bug in the package, I'll tell it to the maintainer, which can 
send it upstream (to you) or not if you aren't concerned with this issue. 

Now try to imagine how it could work without middleman : You'll get 5 mails per 
day from my mother to ask things which are in the doc, she only speaks french, 
and she can't do a "well done bug report or a well argued feature request".

Don't you need some middlemen ?
