Instead answering your question, I would like to ask back why we should use
/opt. I can't see any benefit from this. Indeed, it would make it harder for
our users because they would need to add something to their $PATH.
As we have a nice database where all files are registeres, seperating out
software packages (regardless how big they are) doesn't seem to give any
advantage to me.
Of course, if we had the Hurd with the shadow filesystem, we could mirror
/opt/package/ over /, and be done with it :)
