At this point I don't claim to have the foggiest.  It was decided by a
fairly large group more than a year ago that this is a problem and a
fairly serious one in dpkg.  No attempt has been made to fix it and maybe
I'm just being too frustrated right now but I have very little desire to
fight with it just now.

I'm rooting for dpkgv2 or whatever they're calling it this week.


You did get an answer though:

You'll probably have to use -sa with dpkg-buildpackage for the first
1.2-0beta6.1 though.  Have fun and remenber that smashing your hardware
won't fix dpkg so it actually works as designed, much less as we all think
it should...  =>
