The latter is not the problem -- my question was whether easier
maintenance (=> less bugs) or unification (=> less (pre-)dependencies,
packages installed, etc.) is preferred. (Yes, you answered it, thanks.)

Yes, but both parts can be sources of bugs or other problems.
