No, it tries to close all open file descriptors, which are A LOT on the Hurd
(2^32 I think). You have to uncomment the loop in the related function.
Also, you need to update glibc. As this is quite a huge task, you may prefer
to wait for me updating the Debian package, which will happen in one of the
next days. Screen will follow as a binary package very soon after.

This is nice. try alpha.gnu.org/gnu/hurd/debian/xlib6g*deb and try with X
support, please.

Did you modify the source at all? In this case the patches would be
interesting. (Context diff with diff -ur).
