  This is an issue of the graphics card+bios. The problem is that the lid button
turns the video on, but when the lid is opened again something has to do a video
POST. There's an utility called video_post to manually do this thing an the
intel graphics cards.

  Another option is the use of the vbetool, in my case, which is very similar, I
configured the acpi tools to issue an suspend to RAM by means of the hibernate
script and the attached file (ram.conf.gz). The hibernate script uses the
vbetool to perform this actions.
