OK. My question was not what you like about fakeroot. It's apparent
that careless users should not use sudo and that fakeroot may be a
good substitute for some tasks.

I've been using sudo for several years with good results. It is much
safer than logging in as root since I must always commit to the
priviledges and enter a password. For me, safety is not an issue.
For those who make these mistakes, a couple of big ones should help
them learn prudence. %^)

How is this necessary? If there is something that cannot be set in
the tar file, why not set it in the postinst script?
