Package: reportbug
Version: 12.0.0
Severity: important

Description:
I propose to increase the default value of the 'vm.max_map_count' parameter to improve compatibility and performance of memory mapping-intensive applications,
including databases and video games, especially those run through memory
layers. compatibility like Wine such as Hogwarts legacy.

Justification for the request:

1°) Fedora has already increased this default value to 1048576 to meet the
needs of modern applications, including Windows games running via Wine or Steam

2°) Ubuntu has very recently recognized this bug, and is preparing to correct
it in the next version of Ubuntu.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2057792

3°) Debian users who play video games, in particular those who use emulators or
compatibility layers, but also on native Linux games, often encounter crash
problems due to an insufficient 'vm.max_map_count' value .

Expected result:
Increase the default value of 'vm.max_map_count' to 1048576 to avoid the need for manual modifications, ensure a better user experience out of installation,
and improve compatibility with a wide range of video games.

Environment:
All current versions of debian.

Potential impact:

- Significantly improved compatibility and performance for video games
requiring extensive memory mapping.

- Reduced manual setup steps for end users, especially in the gaming community.

Additional Notes:

This modification should be tested to assess its impact on system performance and resource consumption before being integrated by default, through debian sid
for example.
