Try subscribing to the linux-net list via majordomo@vger.rutgers.edu .
It, and the linux-kernel list, are a must for followers fo the bleeding
edge kernel. There are some vague problem reports that might match
yours posted there this evening.

When it happens, go on the linux machine and run "netstat -i". See if
as many as 256 sockets may be in use (that's the limit), and why.
Run "ifconfig" and see if there are a lot of errors on one interface.
Run "route" and look for problems. Save the information, and include it
with your report. That's just shot-gunning it, but it's a start.
