More effort is made to make sure that the stable version works for
reasonable configurations. Things may stop working every now and then
in the development kernel - new features sometimes mean new bugs.

These are older revisions of the 2.0.x kernel. Every so often a new
revision of the stable kernel will be released, fixing bugs found since
release. When this happens, the last component of the version number is
increased. For example, the first patch to the 2.2 kernel will probably
be version 2.2.1.
The old versions will probably work fine for most people, but it is
generally best to use the latest version unless there are known
incompatibilities.

These are the development kernels that lead up to 2.2.0. As mentioned
above, things may be broken in some of them. While the stability of
Linux development kernels is generally very good, you probably don't
want to be running them unless you know what you're doing.
