  Yes, that's the bug.  The code works for non-local mirrors and doesn't
work for local mirrors, and I have no idea why; I used to have a bug
in the code which caused the program to abort on local files, but it's
no longer there.

  I can post the relevant section of my code if it would help track the
issue down.  As I said, I'm stumped; the error appears to be issuing from
the depths of libapt but I don't know why.
