Bug#70985: it's the kernel
Hi,
I've had the same problem shortly after uopgrading a slink machine to
potato. Some experimentation showed that CDs added with apt-cdrom on a
2.0.36 kernel are not recognized by apt on 2.2.17 and vice versa (i386,
ATAPI CDROM, both kernels compiled by myself). After re-adding with the
right kernel running everything is fine.
This could bite a lot of upgraders since "apt-cdrom add" is usually done
before upgrading to potato, hence before upgrading the kernel.
Presumably the format of some of the stuff apt uses to calculate the
CD-ID changed from 2.0.x to 2.2.x. (But I haven't checked kernel versions
different from 2.0.36 and 2.2.17. Could also be specific to the ATAPI
CDROM driver, I don't have other CD drives to try.
BTW: perhaps this bug should be retitled to something like "apt doesn't
recognize my CDs any more" - the current title suggests annoying, but
completely harmless behaviour.
