A `man' script in the debian base system.
Recently a thread came up on the debian-user mailing list under the
subject `Flaming Debian Newbies', in which people reiterated the
discussion on the fact that a fresh debian base-system does not contain
the `man' command. It is clear (to me) that the manual pages are too
bulky to put on the base floppies. However, a lot of people who
install debian for the first time, who are familiar with some form of
unix, will be tempted to try the man command. I think it would be a
good idea to include a script on the installation floppies called
`man', that will print a message explaining the manual pages are not
there yet, where they are, how to install them (cdrom/ftp/apt...), and
where to find other documentation (/usr/doc, dwww, www.debian.org, the
debian-user mailing list and how to subscribe). Some people on
debian-user seemed to agree this would be useful and easy. Martin
Bialasinski suggested to file a wishlist bug report on boot-floppies,
so here it is :)

In potato, we provide a man script which just tells the user to
install man-db, and gives the command how to do that. This has been
the case for a few versions now.
