If you're talking about an indicator of where you are in the main
display, I agree completely, but you should realize that this dselect
issue and *many* others have been beaten to death in the past.
There's actually a wishlist somewhere (probably the dpkg source).
The people working on the dselect replacement (diety) are addressing
these problems.
