I wonder if you had a look at Scott Ellis' excellent mini HOWTO! I
upgraded a bo system to latest hamm (a few days old) today and with the
help of the mini HOWTO I didn't had any problems.

(Ok, ok, I had one problem: I ran `dpkg -i' once for a few packages and
this made my bash segfault. However, after downgraded these packages and
upgraded them individually everything was back in order again.)
