pppd woes...

Hello,
 after compiling 1.3.81 kernel, i have made ppp and slip as modules. I
have configured the options and ppp-connect files for my ppp connection.(
btw, i'm using the unstable packages (1.1).)
Run pppd and this is what i get in syslog:
Apr  3 17:29:54 peru pppd[223]: pppd 2.2.0 started by root, uid 0
Apr 3 17:30:24 peru pppd[223]: Serial connection established.
Apr  3 17:30:25 peru pppd[223]: Using interface ppp0
Apr  3 17:30:25 peru pppd[223]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
Apr  3 17:30:29 peru pppd[223]: local  IP address <ip#>
Apr  3 17:30:29 peru pppd[223]: remote IP address <ip#>
Apr  3 17:30:29 peru pppd[223]: Fatal signal 11
Apr  3 17:30:29 peru pppd[223]: Exit.
Apr  3 17:31:59 peru pppd[233]: pppd 2.2.0 started by root, uid 0
Apr 3 17:32:23 peru pppd[233]: Serial connection established.
Apr  3 17:32:24 peru pppd[233]: Using interface ppp0
Apr  3 17:32:24 peru pppd[233]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
Apr  3 17:32:28 peru pppd[233]: local  IP address <ip#>
Apr  3 17:32:28 peru pppd[233]: remote IP address <ip#>
Apr  3 17:32:28 peru pppd[233]: Fatal signal 11
Apr  3 17:32:28 peru pppd[233]: Exit.

(ignore the ip#)
that is the problem, the Fatal signal 11s.

why? what does this mean?

Also, when using minicom as a non-root user, after dialing from the
<Ctrl>-<A> D menu, i get a Got signal 11 message, and exits out to a prompt.
any ideas??

Thanks,
-Frank
